Transportation

Metrorail- The Metro is Washington's subway system.  It can be used to reach many parts of the city as well as many Virginia and Maryland suburbs.  The nearest stops to the University are Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and Rosslyn (Virginia).  All of these stops are either a thirty minute walk or a short bus ride from Georgetown.

Metrobus- The Metrobus system is quite extensive.  Transfers are available to connecting busses, as well as from the Metrorail to the Metrobus.  You cannot use a transfer obtained from the Metrobus on the Metrorail.  An additional fare may be required.

The University is served by three primary bus routes (click here for free Adobe Reader):

  1. The even 30 bus routes (30, 32, 34, 36) run through Georgetown to Wisconsin Ave, through M Street & Pennsylvania Ave down to Capitol and beyond.  The 38B bus runs through Georgetown to Prospect St and ends at the Rosslyn Metro.
  2. The D bus routes (D2, D4, D6) run from Glover Park (north of the University) to 35th and Q Streets, and then towards Dupont Circle to downtown.
  3. The G2 bus runs from the main gates of the University to Dupont Circle and then to Howard University.

There are two fare periods for both Metrorail and Metrobus- rush hour and non-rush hour.  It costs more to ride during rush hours, defined at 5:00am to 9:30am and from 3pm to 7pm, Monday through Friday.  Click here for fare and pass information.  For further transit information, contact the Metro office at (202) 637-7000.

Taxis- The rates for taxis are regulated and posted in all taxicabs.  The meter starts when the taxi pulls away from the curb and ends when the cab stops at the final destination.  Additional charges are made for luggage, service during rush hours, extra passengers and snow emergency.
