Neighborhoods to Consider

Adams Morgan - Washington's Greenwich Village, this is an ethnically diverse area filled with inexpensive restaurants and a number of moderately priced apartments and group living venues. The demand for housing is very high, and affordable locations are hard to find.

Bethesda, Maryland - Just over the northwest district line, parts of Bethesda are convenient to Georgetown. Rental apartments in high-rise buildings and some houses and townhouses are available. Rents tend to be high.

Burleith - Located just north of campus, Burleith combines the charm of Georgetown with slightly less expensive housing. Within walking distance, this neighborhood is popular for students living in townhouses.

Capitol Hill - Highly popular with young professionals and Capitol Hill staff, this area is also attractive for law students. Affordable housing is available, but tends to be rented very quickly.

Cleveland Park/Woodley Park
- This is a quiet attractive area with many single family homes which rent basement apartments to students. Some homes are rented to groups. There are also many large apartment buildings, but rents tend to be high.

Dupont Circle - An extremely popular area for young professionals, on a direct bus line to the Main Campus. This area's rents are usually high. Serviced by Metrobus and Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS).

Foggy Bottom - This close-in neighborhood surrounding the State Department and George Washington University has rental property mainly in apartment buildings. Rents tend to be high, and openings are few.

Foxhall - This residential community is located northwest of the University. It is expensive but has some housing available to students.

Foxhall Village - A pleasant community located to the west of the University in walking distance of campus.

Georgetown (West) - The neighborhood to the east of campus and directly outside the front gates of the University is quite desirable and convenient. It is also one of the most prestigious and sought-after addresses in the city, therefore, rents are high and the competition is intense. Because of its proximity to the University, the Georgetown neighborhood has a large student population.

Glover Park - Located further north, this quiet residential area is popular with graduate students. Serviced by Metrobus.

Palisades - The Palisades area is located in Northwest DC along the Potomac River between Key Bridge and Chain Bridge. Some areas of Palisades are within walking distance of the University and rental rates tend to be lower.

Rosslyn/Arlington, Virginia
- Located directly across the Potomac River from the campus, this area has reasonable rents in some of the older apartment buildings. Some housing is convenient to Key Bridge, and you may find that a walk or bicycle ride from Rosslyn to campus suits your needs. Serviced by  GUTS.

Takoma Park/Silver Spring, Maryland
- This close-in Maryland area is on a direct subway line to Dupont Circle, from which there is both GUTS and Metrobus service to Georgetown. Takoma Park in particular has many group houses and is popular with young people. Rents are reasonable.
