Moving In/Out
When moving into your rental unit it is important to protect your security deposit and be on the lookout for safety concerns.
- Fill out a walkthrough form (This is used to protect your security deposit. Make sure that both you and the landlord sign this form after it is filled out.)
- Fill out a fire Safety Checklist (This is important to make you aware of what to look for concerning fire safety. If you are concerned at any time you can contact the DCRA (442-4400) to schedule an inspection. As a tenant you have the right to request an inspection without any repercussion from your landlord.)
- Set up your utilities (Make arrangements for Trash, Electric, Gas, Cable, and Internet access. Be informed on the proper way to handle trash in the neighborhoods surrounding campus.)
When moving out of your rental unit be sure to:
- Give Landlord minimum 30 days notice
- Cancel the Utilities
- Clean the property
- Fill out another walkthrough form (The landlord must inspect the property as early as 3 days before or up to 3 days after your move out to determine if charges are necessary to your security deposit.)
