Marjorie L. Powell, J.D.

Marjorie Powell began her role as Director of Affirmative Action Programs in the office for Institutional Diversity, Equity and Affirmative Action at Georgetown University in October 2006.

Prior to coming to the Hilltop, Ms. Powell served for nine years as the Director for Equal Opportunity, Policy Development and Analysis at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In this capacity, she was responsible for the direction of all internal and external harassment and discrimination complaint investigations, federal and state contract compliance, the University’s Affirmative Action Plan and the Supplier Diversity Program. Ms. Powell was also responsible for staffing the policy sub-committee for the President’s Cabinet and the coordination of workforce progression and succession plan for non-academic staff of the institution. She also served as Title IX and ADA compliance officer for the campus.

Prior to Wayne State University, Ms. Powell as the Assistant Dean in the College of Social Science and Anti-Discrimination Judicial Board and Freedom of Information Officer reporting to the Dean and later the President at Michigan State University.

Marjorie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Boston University and a law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law.

Ms. Powell is a member of several professional organizations such as the American Association for Affirmative Action (AAAA), the National Association for African Americans in Human Resources, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the College and University Personnel Association.
