The Office of International Initiatives supports global teaching, research, and outreach activities across Georgetown University. The office supports faculty through international collaborative grants; provides guidance to faculty and staff on new project development; manages an internal communications platform that informs the university community about international opportunities; maintains an interactive database of the university’s global activities; and assists with the development of global relationships. The Office of International Initiatives reports to the Vice-President for Global Engagement.
International Collaborative Grants: The Office of International Initiatives sponsors a regular international grants competition twice a year, in October and February. Grants are awarded to individual faculty (up to $5000) and teams (up to $15,000) to support global teaching and research activities that involve one or more international partners. From time to time, the Office also sponsors special grant solicitations related to University priorities.
New Project Development: The Office of International Initiatives works with the Office of International Programs and other units across campus to support faculty and staff in the development of new projects, including faculty exchange, certificate programs, and research funded by non-US agencies. Communications Platform: The Office of International Initiatives distributes information to the Georgetown community on international activities and opportunities. List serves and newsletters on Europe, East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America (as well as key countries including China, India, and Brazil) track university teaching, research, and outreach activities in different world regions, and identify funding, travel, and other opportunities for faculty, staff and alumni.
Interactive Database: In collaboration with the Office of International Programs, the Office of International Initiatives manages an interactive database that maps global engagement across the university. It allows users to explore global activities across units and topic areas, ranging from majors and degree programs to study abroad to international research collaboration. The database also includes descriptions of the university’s global partners and information on relevant international agreements.
Global Relationships: In cooperation with the Office of International Programs and other campus units, the Office of International Initiatives supports relationships with international partners, including higher education institutions and governmental and non-governmental organizations that work with Georgetown faculty, departments, and schools. The Office helps to coordinate visitors and delegations from abroad and maintains the Georgetown University Liaison Office in Shanghai.
