90-Minute Power Clean Up: Georgetown University's Associate Vice President for External Relations Linda Greenan and Director of Government and Community Relations Brenda Atkinson-Willoughby participated alongside University faculty, staff, students and neighbors in a clean up of the West Georgetown and Burleith neighborhoods. October 21, 2011.
One City • One Hire Initiative Press Conference: Georgetown University's Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Mary Anne Mahin and Associate Vice President for External Relations Linda Greenan attended Mayor Vincent C. Gray's press conference to support his One City • One Hire Initiative, which is a hiring initiative with the goal of putting District residents back to work. September 8, 2011.
Capital Breast Cancer Center Reception: The Capital Breast Cancer Center (CBCC), an initiative of the University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, hosted a reception to announce a $200,000 grant from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, which will allow for an expansion of their services. Associate Vice President for External Relations Linda Greenan attended the event. September 7, 2011.
Annual Community Service Day: The Office of External Relations partnered with the Center for Social Justice, Research, Teaching and Service as well as the Ward 7 Initiative to organize the University's annual Community Service Day. Georgetown University freshmen and transfer students spread out throughout Ward 7 to feed the homeless, clean up neighborhoods and help in other ways. September 3, 2011.
Grand Opening of the New H.D. Woodson Senior High School: Georgetown University’s Director of Government and Community Relations Brenda Atkinson-Willoughby attended the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Howard Dilworth Woodson Senior High School. Mayor Vincent C. Gray, representatives from the Office of the City Administrator (OCA) and the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization (OPEFM) and members of the District of Columbia City Council also attended the event to celebrate the brand new H.D. Woodson Senior High School. August 17, 2011.
President DeGioia's Picnic for First Responders: Georgetown University's President John J. DeGioia hosted the annual summer Picnic for First Responders at the University's Leo J. O'Donovan Dining Hall as a token of gratitude for their selfless dedication to protecting the health and safety of the Georgetown University community. Vice President for External Relations Linda Greenan and Director of Government and Community Relations Brenda Atkinson-Willoughby attended in support and appreciation. August 11, 2011.
Summer Youth Employment Program: The Office of External Relations is the lead department in organizing Georgetown University's participation in the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). In Summer 2011, the University welcomed approximately 36 District high school students to the University campus to intern for four to six weeks. Students were able to take part in meaningful work while gaining skills and experiences that will support them in their future endeavors. August 5, 2011.
Consortium of Universities Job Fair: The Office of External Relations partnered with Georgetown University's Department of Human Resources to participate in a job fair which was co-hosted by the Consortium of Universities and the D.C. Department of Employment Services (DOES). July 20, 2011.
African American Civil War Memorial and Museum: The Office of External Relations represented the University at the ribbon-cutting program for the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum where Georgetown University was recognized as a sponsor. Senator Mary Landrieu, Representative Eleanor Holmes-Norton and Mayor Vincent Gray were in attendance. July 18, 2011.
Georgetown Business Forum on D.C. Nightlife and Hospitality: Prominent business and community leaders addressed issues ranging from competition from downtown establishments to underage drinking, parking and high rents. Associate Vice President for External Relations Linda Greenan participated in the lively panel discussion attended by over 100 invited guests. July 13, 2011.
