Offer Policy

Offers Extended During General (Non On-Campus) Recruiting

To ensure students have an opportunity to make well-informed, thoughtful decisions regarding job and internship opportunities, the Career Education Center encourages all employers to give students ample time to consider all offers. NACE guidelines recommend that job offers do not expire for a minimum of three weeks and the Career Education Center endorses this policy. This policy benefits both students and employers since it enables students to consider all aspects of positions, leading to a greater fit (and retention) in the position. All job offers should be made in writing.

Occasionally students will request additional time, which we encourage you to accommodate. We coach students to accept offers in writing, and ask them to inform our office immediately and withdraw their applications from other employers when they accept an offer.

Offers Extended as a Result of a Summer Internship

All offers for full time employment resulting from a summer internship that are made to rising seniors (December 2008 or May 2009 graduates) should remain valid until at least November 1, 2008. Offers for follow-on internships resulting from a previous summer internship should remain valid until at least March 1, 2009.

Offers Extended During On-Campus Recruiting

Offers for full-time and internship positions can be extended at any time during the recruiting period. Offers may not expire until three weeks after the offer date (as determined by the date of the written offer). In addition, bonuses and other incentives associated with the offer cannot expire before this date.

The only exception to this policy is our Platinum Partners for whom offers cannot expire before the later of three weeks from the date of the written offer or November 1, 2008 for fall recruiting and March 1, 2009 for spring recruiting. This policy refers, specifically, to offers extended during the on-campus recruiting process.

This policy benefits both students and employers. It ensures that students have ample time to make an informed decision and allows employers access to a larger pool of qualified students. Violation of this policy can result in suspension from recruiting activities for one academic year.

Second-round Interviews

Second round interviews may be held one week after the first-round interview date, either in DC or in another city.   Platinum and Gold Partners have a separate second-round interview schedule, and that is detailed below.

To ensure students' access to all employers and reduce undue pressure on students, the Career Education Center enforces a policy that all second-round interviews must accommodate students' classes and previously scheduled first-round interviews. In addition, it is the responsibility of the employer to coordinate second-round interviews with students, including travel arrangements for second rounds outside of the DC area. Do not make travel arrangements for students before conferring with them. Please notify students at least 24 hours before the scheduled second-round interview.
