Scholarship Opportunities
The following list of law school scholarships and resources is not exhaustive and is subject to change. Please be sure to use other resources when searching for scholarships.
General Scholarships for Law Students
- Truman Scholarship
The Truman Scholarship is awarded to students planning a career in government or public service. This $30,000 scholarship is applied for during junior year; the campus deadline for applying is mid-November. The majority of the award is to support graduate study.
- Soros Fellowship for New Americans
The Soros Fellowship provides $20,000 per year, plus half the cost of tuition for 2-3 years of graduate school. Applications should be submitted during the senior year or during the first year of graduate study.
- Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship
The Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship program awards scholarships worth up to $50,000 each to college seniors or recent graduates to attend graduate or professional programs.
- Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest
The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics Essay Contest is open to juniors and seniors. Several prizes are awarded - first prize is $5,000.
- Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA)/Trial Advocacy Scholarship
The ATLA/Trial Advocacy Scholarship is open to all second and third-year ATLA Law Student Members. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates a commitment to ATLA and dedication to its mission through extensive involvement in ATLA student chapter activities; expresses a desire to represent victims; exhibits an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy; and shows a financial need for the scholarship.
- Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice. Applications are available in January. The maximum grant is $6,000.
- Federal Circuit Bar Association/Howard T. Markey Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a law student showing financial need, demonstrated academic promise and an interest in public service. Award is $10,000.
- Federal Circuit Bar Association/The Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Scholarship Program
Applicant must be a law student showing financial need and demonstrated academic promise, either in undergraduate studies or in law school. Award is $10,000.
- John Gyles Education Awards
Open to students in both Canada and United States who are enrolled full-time at (or accepted to) a college or university program as a graduate student.
