Whether you are decided or undecided about your career, it's wise to begin solidifying your post-college plans. The Career Education Center has resources for all stages of the career process. The following is a list of suggested steps to help you plan for life after Georgetown.
Come to the Career Education Center for a Walk-In appointment to discuss your senior year career goals and to orient yourself to the Center. Walk-In hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Log on to Hoya Career Connection. Update your profile and resume. Search for jobs and internships and monitor on-campus recruiting opportunities.
Attend an On-Campus Recruiting Workshop. The workshop is offered throughout the year, and is required before you can apply for on-campus recruiting jobs. We strongly recommend that you attend this workshop if you plan to apply for jobs after graduation. The workshop schedule can be found on our calendar.
Make sure your resume and a general cover letter are always ready to be sent to potential employers. Have friends, professors, supervisors, or Career Education Center staff review these documents.
Drop in for one of the many Career Education Center workshops on topics like interviewing, networking, and resume/cover letter writing. The current schedule can be found on our online calendar.
Practice your interview skills in a Mock Interview.
Broaden your network by using the Alumni Career Network. Identify alumni who work in the career fields you're considering and arrange an informational interview.
If law school is in your future, attend a Pre-Law Workshop presented by our pre-law advisor or stop in for a pre-law Walk-In.
If you are considering graduate school, check application dates, draft a personal statement, and take the necessary entrance exam (e.g., GMAT, GRE).
Ask professors to write a recommendation on your behalf before you leave Georgetown, especially if graduate school or law school is in your future. Consider establishing a credentials file with Interfolio, an online credentials service.
