The Black House

What is the Black House?

Forty-years ago, a small group of Black students (just 10) protested in front of then President Timothy Healy's office with a few demands. First, they wanted to increase the percentage of minority students that was accepted into Georgetown. Secondly, they wanted the university to invest in creating a support system that monitored and tracked minorities that did enroll at the university. Finally, they urged the university to provide a space where Blacks could congregate to socialize or talk about pertinent issues of the day. That space became the "Black House."

Continuing in the same tradition as those courageous students, the Black House remains one of the few places on campus where minority students can gather to talk about issues, and meet one another, as we celebrate the common bond that unites us at the university.

Over the course of the year,  the Black House residents will be hosting several programs for all students to participate in. Minority student organizations are encouraged to utilize the house for club meetings and for social events. To reserve the house, please call Resident Director Marcus Howard at (202) 687-5174 or use the House Request Form.
