St. Mary's Cathedral, Killarney, Ireland

The theology of reservation of the Blessed Sacrament and the history of the tabernacle has been chronicled by different authors in articles on EnVisionChurch (see the list of links below). The complexity and richness of the theology of reservation is clearly reflected in the way the Blessed Sacrament has been reserved over the course of the past 2000 years. The size, shape and location of the tabernacle is the result of that theology.

Our online exhibit of tabernacles, which in no way claims to be exhaustive, provides a selection of the different ways in which the tabernacle is being designed today. There are a few references to historical monuments.
