- Artist Info: James B. Janknegt was born in Austin, Texas. All through junior and high school he participated in the Saturday Morning Art Project at the University of Texas. He graduated with a BFA from the University of Texas in Austin in 1978. He did his graduate studies in Iowa City with Mauricio Lasansky and Joe Patrick and took his MA and MFA in 1982.
His religious journey took him from The Well, a trans-denominational coffee house where he painted murals on the walls and sung in the folk group; to St. David's Episcopal church where he joined the folk group and illustrated several Mass booklets for music written by Kathy Kanewske. It was also at St. David's that Jim reconnected with Melissa Peña and subsequently married her. In 2005 the Janknegt's journey brought them to Catholicism. They were received into full communion in 2007.
