CHAIR'S GREETING - FALL 2011 INVITATIONS

Dear Anthropology community at Georgetown:

Welcome back to campus!

This fall we are kicking off the academic year with a celebration to inaugurate the launch of the Department of Anthropology and our new office space in the Car Barn. We are honored to announce that Professor Sherry Ortner will be giving the “Inaugural Lecture of the Department of Anthropology” on Thursday, September 22nd from 4-5:30 in McShain Lounge, followed by a reception. The title of Professor Ortner's talk is "Not Hollywood: Independent Film as Cultural Critique". We are grateful to all the current and past students, and colleagues at Georgetown and neighboring universities, who have helped build our anthropology community. Please join us at the celebration.

The Anthropology Collective – comprised of current students – will be co-sponsoring a luncheon with the Department on Wednesday, November 9th from 12:00 - 1:30 pm in the Anthropology Suite, 308 in the Car Barn. This is a new event, during the week of Pre-Registration, designed for students to meet one another and the faculty.
