Sigma Xi is the international science honor society. Because of the extent of research being performed in the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as in the Medical Center, Georgetown University was granted a Sigma Xi Chapter in 1967.
Induction into the Society is an honor; students are nominated because of their dedication to research. Each year, the Sigma Xi Medal(s) is(are) awarded at the annual induction ceremony and dinner. Additionally, grants to support research are awarded from the National Office to members.
