PhD Program

Congratulations to
T. Renee BOWEN, the
2007-2008 Razin Prize Recipient

The Georgetown University Economics PhD program is a full-time program designed for students who seek research careers on the forefront of economic science. The PhD program provides an excellent training environment for future scholars. Located in the nation's capital, it is ideally situated for both students specializing in the pure science and those who wish to study policy informed by the science.

A list of recent academic placements of our PhD students reflects the rapid ascendancy of the program. That quality is exemplified by the Razin Prize awarded each year for the best dissertation or research paper produced by an advanced graduate student.

Approximately twenty students enter the program each year. Small class sizes allow students to work closely with faculty on coursework and dissertation research.

Students may choose from among nine fields of specialization:

See Course of Study for a detailed description.

Analytical skills and a strong preparation in mathematics are essential for successful application.
