Two New Faculty Hires
The German Department is delighted that Dr. Mary Helen Dupree (18th century German Studies) and Dr. Marianna Pankova (SLA, curriculum coordinator) will join the faculty as tenure-track assistant professors this fall.
Mary Helen Dupree received her Ph.D. in German Literature from Columbia University in 2006. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University for two years before accepting the position at Georgetown. Her teaching and research interests are concentrated on late-18th and early-19th century literature and culture, with emphasis on gender and performance studies. Dr. Dupree’s current book project is a study of the self-representations of late-18th and early-19th century actress-writers, including Sophie Albrecht, Marianne Ehrmann, and Elise Bürger.
This coming fall, Dr. Dupree will offer a new course on the role of the actress in the history of theater and performance (“Enter the Actress”).
Marianna Pankova’s research interests include second language acquisition, discourse analysis, and Foreign Language curriculum design. After receiving her Ph.D. at Georgetown University in 2006, she was assistant professor and coordinator of the German language at George Mason University.
At Georgetown, Dr. Pankova will work closely with all graduate students and faculty in her role as curriculum coordinator. This coming fall semester, she will offer a graduate course on “Fundamentals in Foreign Language Instruction.”
