Past Film Series:
Before and After Exile
German Filmmakers with Jewish Backgrounds

Featuring works of German/Austrian filmmakers such as Fritz Lang, Billy Wilder and Ernst Lubitsch before and after their emigration to the US, the film series is intended to provide a platform to compare these works from a film history perspective as well as with regards to their content. As for the latter, we are (among other topics) interested in the filmmakers' 'construction' of Europe/ Germany from the distance. The series will conclude with Dani Levy's award-winning and controversial most recent film "Alles auf Zuker", which, as critics have argued, forms a revival of the German-Jewish comedy genre.
