Alumni Survey

The German Department conducted an extensive survey of current students taking German, current majors, and alumni to assess the educational impact and students’ perception of the program. Some key findings:

• German majors enter an extraordinary range of professions after graduation.
• Students’ overall educational experience in German courses is excellent.
• The Department’s curricular reform enhanced student learning and the quality of students’ educational experience.

“The language studies in the German Department not only teach students the language, but how to think in general about how meaning is conveyed, whether it be in speaking or writing, skills which have proved extremely useful in other classes, regardless of the subject matter.” (current student)

“Learning the German language and culture allowed me to meet people who had a great impact on my emotional life.” (alum)

“I felt that the expectations were set high for us as majors, and we were taken seriously as students.” (alum)
