Factsheet for German Majors & Minors

German Major:

REQUIREMENTS:
10 courses starting with Int. Advanced or Advanced II

Majoring in German if you started learning German at Georgetown:

• Semester 1-4 : Intensive Basic, Intermediate and Advanced German, Text in Context
• Summer program in Trier, Germany -- or GU summer school:
Take up to two German courses in five weeks!
• Semester 5-8: Take a total of six German courses; at least one per semester
• Study abroad option (highly recommended!): study one or two semesters at the university of Munich, Vienna, Berlin or Tübingen

… if you came to Georgetown with background in German:

Take at least one course in the German Department every semester.

To reach a total of 10 courses you have the following options:

• Attend the Summer program in Trier, Germany (2 courses in 5 weeks)
• Study abroad in Germany and count 2 courses per semester toward your German major
• Transfer credits from another university (approval required)

German Minor:

REQUIREMENTS: 6 courses starting with Int. Intermediate or Interm. I

• Take a total of 6 courses in the German Dept. at Georgetown
• Other Options: Attend the Georgetown Summer program in Trier, Germany (2 courses in 5 weeks!) – or the GU summer school
• OR Study abroad in Germany and count two courses per semester toward your German minor (approval required)
