Generations for Peace: M.A. Scholarship & Summer Fellowships for Sport and Peacebuilding
The M.A Program in Conflict Resolution is pleased to announce a continued collaboration with Generations for Peace (www.generationsforpeace.com) a pioneering organization dedicated to sport and peacebuilding.Two prestigious opportunities are available to students enrolled at Georgetown University:
HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Generations for Peace Scholarship for Graduate Studies
This scholarship is only for students entering the MA in Conflict Resolution Program in Fall 2012.The scholarship will support innovative research on the intersection of sport and peacebuilding. The scholarship is for two academic years and candidates will be expected to:
- Conduct independent research on sport and peacebuilding;
- Focus studies on the intersection of sport and peacebuilding;
- Give at least one public talk on sport and peacebuilding at Georgetown; and
- Seek opportunities to publish research.
Candidates will receive:
- A scholarship covering full tuition and fees for the CR MA program.
- Funding for summer field research.
Selection Criteria:
- An established track record of achievement, scholastic and/or leadership.
- A commitment to improving the lives of others, as demonstrated by experience.
- The potential to use one’s education and experience to contribute to the world’s need for greater tolerance and understanding between conflicting communities.
- Preference is given to candidates who demonstrate financial need and/or are from conflict or post-conflict zones

Generations for Peace Summer Field Research Fellowship
Students enrolled in select masters programs at Georgetown University, including the M.A. in Conflict Resolution program, are eligible to apply.
Eligibility criteria include:
- Academic excellence;
- Expertise in youth and sport programming;
- Innovativeness of proposed research;
- Evidence of plan to disseminate learning to a wider audience, and,
- Demonstrated commitment to field of sport and peacebuilding.
Two recipients will be selected each summer between 2012-2014, and possibly further in the future.
Meet Some Past Successful Applicants:

Meeghan Zahorsky (M.A. Conflict Resolution) ’12
A graduate of Brown University, Meeghan Zahorsky was the first recipient of the Generations for Graduate Peace Scholarship. Passionate about post-conflict economic reconstruction, Meeghan has traveled to four continents as part of her research on the use of sports for intergroup peacebuilding. She has focused primarily on monitoring and evaluation of peacebuilding through sports programs.
Amanda Munroe (M.A. Conflict Resolution) ’12
Originally from Michigan, Amanda has long been intrigued by multiculturalism and integration in Western Europe. As a recipient of summer field research grant, Amanda traveled to Germany, Italy, and France where she focused on peace education with an emphasis on intercultural projects involving youth.
Sarah Moran (MSFS) ’12
A student from the Master of Science in Foreign Service program, Sarah used her summer field research grant to return to South Africa, where she had lived and worked as a teacher before enrolling at Georgetown. Sarah studied how conflict resolution is integrated in different sports and the effects of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on local communities.
