MA Program to Co-sponsor "The Future of Catholic Peacebuilding"

Twenty five years after the U.S. Catholic Bishops' 1983 pastoral, "The Challenge of Peace," called for further development of a theology of peace, peacebuilding has received much greater attention in both secular and Church circles. On the anniversary of the peace pastoral, an interdisciplinary group of scholars and practitioners, from various sectors of the Catholic community, will come together to reflect on the theological, ethical, and practical dimensions of the Church's work on conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and post-conflict reconciliation.

These events are the Washington, D.C., component of a larger Catholic Peacebuilding Network conference to be held at Notre Dame University April 13-15, 2008 (http://cpn.nd.edu ), to showcase and contribute to efforts to develop a conceptually coherent, theologically accurate, spiritually enlivening, and practically effective approach to Catholic peacebuilding that can begin to match the sophistication of Catholic teaching on the ethics of war. These events are co-sponsored by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University, The Catholic University of America Office of the President, The Catholic University of America Life Cycle Institute, The Catholic University of America Center for International Social Development, the Georgetown University Master of Arts Program in Conflict Resolution, Washington Theological Union's Center for Ministry and Public Life, and the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University.
