Application Deadlines

Summer and Fall 2009 term admission: February 16, 2009

Part-time Students
Though most students will be encouraged to enroll on a full-time basis, those with existing job obligations will be accepted into the program, but they will be advised to diminish the annual course load in order to maintain the quality of a top advanced degree program. These part-time students would be allowed to complete the program of courses in 24 months and to prepare their thesis during the third year of the program. The interaction between full- and part-time students will be a major asset of the program, as it will encourage a better understanding of the nexus between policy-making theory and practice. The structure of the classes, designed to generate a strong interaction among students and teachers, will also contribute to this end.

English Language Proficiency
All applicants who are not native English speakers are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Proficiency can be demonstrated by the receipt of a bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university in another country where English is the primary language of instruction.

In addition, as of Fall 2004, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Georgetown University has approved a new test administered by the International English Language Testing System (www.ielts.org) that may be substituted for the TOEFL. A minimum score of 7.0 is required. The TOEFL or IELTS requirement will not be waived under any circumstances. Please note that your application cannot be processed unless an original copy of your test score is forwarded to the Graduate School at Georgetown

Admission to the Ph.D. in Government Program
After completion of the M.A. in Development Management and Policy, a student may apply for admission to Georgetown's doctoral program in the Department of Government. If admitted, the student may request that courses taken under the M.A. program be applied toward the Ph.D. in Government. This request should be filed within the student's first year of enrollment. A maximum of 27 credit hours toward the Ph.D. may be approved.

The tuition costs for the M.A. program is $16,000 (subject to change). This applies to all students beginning the program after January 1, 2007. Admitted students can apply for tuition waivers from UNSAM (25% of tuition costs).
