Borrowing Equipment

The equipment you will borrow is often expensive and fragile. Please handle it with particular care. Refrain from eating and drinking while handling the equipment. Be sure to keep it stored in its box between uses; mind dust, heat and other hazards. Pay particular attention to hinges, lenses, screens, and buttons. Please read carefully the recommendations given in the manuals regarding the use and handling of the equipment. There are specific warnings printed in the manuals you should be aware of. Please report any malfunctioning to the lab assistant (linglab@georgetown.edu).

LCD Projector Policies

The LCD projector was purchased primarily for talks given in the Linguistics Department. It is not a robust piece of equipment, and it is expensive to repair. The Linglab has very limited funds available for repair. Thus, when the projector is borrowed for use outside Georgetown, a faculty member must make the request and agree to be the responsible party. Individual faculty may choose to serve as the responsible party for their graduate students, but the faculty member needs to make the request and sign the form.

a. Department Talks

Talks given in the Linguistics department take priority. A Linguistics faculty member, or the department's administrator, should make arrangements directly through the Lab Assistant to reserve the projector.

b. Conferences

In special cases, such as a language- or linguistics-related national or international conference, the projector can be checked out for use outside Georgetown. A faculty member needs to make arrangements directly with the Lab Assistant to reserve the equipment. The request for the use of the projector needs to be made at least 48 hours in advance. The projector may be checked out for up to four consecutive days. If additional time is required, the request is referred to the lab committee who consider extended requests in the context of what they know about forthcoming requests and conflicts.

Because the projector is expensive and can be easily damaged, the LingLab checkout log can only be signed by the responsible faculty member.

c. Classroom Uses

The projector is not available for regular classroom use. If instructors need an LCD projector for class, they should consult Classroom Educational Technology Service (CETS) by calling at 7-7491 or submit an on-line request at: http://www.library.georgetown.edu/forms/cets/

Please do not use the equipment for longer than necessary. Remember that somebody else probably needs it. Be considerate, please share resources.
