Recorders

Small Standard Cassette Recorders

    * Small size, lightweight, easy to use
    * Ideal for simple recording of conversations, especially in    
    environments where a discrete recorder is better
    NOT for use when very high sound quality is needed (e.g. for acoustic
    phonetic analysis) -

Sony WMD-6C

    * Relatively small
    * Fairly high recording quality when the required external microphone     used is a high-quality microphone
    * Ability to adjust recorder settings

Marantz PMD 430

    * Stereo professional portable cassette recorder
    * High quality professional recording
    * External microphone jack takes ¼" (large size)
    * Records standard cassettes
      - Recording level controls
      - Noise reduction controls
      - Monitor recording as you record
    * Small speaker (Playback volume low; use an external speaker or        
    headphones for higher volume playback if necessary)
    * Battery-powered and DC plug-in available; please specify which is  
    preferred
    * Produces excellent recording quality, especially when used with a
    high-quality external microphone.

You will need an external microphone for this recorder.

Marantz PMD 660

    * It is run for hours on just four AA batteries
    * It records on Compact Flash media cards that will store more than 36     hours of mono on a single card
    * Editing can be achieved right there in the field using one of two        
    editing modes, or using your favorite audio editing application by    
    transferring files to your PC- the PMD 660 even has its own USB
    port.  XLR inputs, phantom power, built-in mics and more- it's all there
    in the PMD 660.

Olympus Digital Recorder WS-300M

    * 68 hours recording time
    * Direct PC link
    * Built-in stereo microphone

Batteries are supplied by the lab, but cassette tapes are not.

Sony WM-D6 C -- Stereo-cassette recorder (standard cassettes)

    * Records in mono using external microphone
    * Manual recording level control
    * Dolby B and C noise reduction
    * No speaker
    * Smaller than Marantz

You will need an external microphone for this recorder.
