Dr. C. Margaret Hall
Professor C. Margaret Hall poses with Sara B. Fein, President of District of Columbia Sociological Society, after she presented her with the Stuart A. Rice Career Achievement Award.

It was a wonderful evening, May 15th, at the D.C. Sociological Society’s Award Banquet. Professor Margaret Hall was awarded the Stuart A. Rice Career Achievement Award before a large gathering of DCSS members and members of her family. It was a joyful celebration of Professor Hall’s many achievements and contributions to the field of sociology and sociological practice, to her teaching and administrative contributions here at Georgetown, and for her service to the greater community. Professor Bill McDonald read a glowing commendation chronicling some of the many highlights of Professor Hall's career. Professor Hall gave a touching acceptance speech, in her gracious and humble manner, appreciating the award as recognition that "someone is watching" her love's labor over the long run and validating and honoring her body of work. She encouraged us to keep applying our social intelligence in everyday life, not only in our professional work but in our dealings with non-sociologists in daily interactions because our social intelligence makes a difference. Professor Hall was joined at the ceremony by her husband Bob and daughter Jamy; and department colleagues Bill McDonald and his wife Irene, Kathleen Maas Weigert, and Sam Marullo. It was a touching and joyful celebration honoring our dear colleague.
Congratulations Professor Hall!
