Professor Vivaldo Santos visits Brazil and Promotes Children's Book

On June 13th through 15th, Professor Vivaldo Santos, director of the Undergraduate Studies in the Spanish and Portuguese, Director of the Portuguese Program as well the Director of the Brazilian Studies Program/SFS, joined President DeGioia and a University delegation to the first ever visit to Brazil to promote Georgetown University. Georgetown was chosen by Fundação Estudar, a non-profit organization that offers Brazilian youth mentoring, networking, and career development opportunities, to be part of their World’s Greatest Universities” initiative. The expo took place in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and was a great opportunity to promote the College Programs.

Between July 15th and August 3rd, Prof. Santos also directed the summer Portuguese language program in Rio de Janeiro. This summer was the forth year of the summer Portuguese language program co-organized by University of Florida and Georgetown U at the IBEU (Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos) in Rio de Janeiro. This year there were 27 students from several American universities.

Towards the end of his trip, Professor Santos also traveled in Brazil to promote his recent published children's book "O Rato Que Roeu a Roupa do Rei". The highest moment of the events was the dramatization of elementary school children of his story (see picture) as well a book launching in the historical city of Ouro Preto, where he studied as undergraduate.
