Laura Weiss has recently received the Best Student Abstract
The Department of Spanish & Portuguese is pleased to announce that Laura Weiss has recently received the Best Student Abstract Award granted by the Student Award Sub-Committee of the ICTBLT at the TLBT conference held in Lancaster, England this September 2009.
According to the Sub-Committee, "For the best abstract award, although there were several good contenders, there was also a clear winner: Laura Weiss. We found the abstract well-written and expressive of a unique approach to studying the theory-to-practice interface in the very important area of teachers and their implementation of task-based ideas. We also appreciated the grounding of the research in the applicant's desire to get at some of the deeper challenges faced by language teachers as they engage with the intricacies of task-based teaching and learning."
It is also of interest to note that another of our students, Ana Maria Martinez Fernandez, received honorable mention as she placed among the top 5 candidates.
