Prof. Vivaldo Santos was awarded second place of the International competition: 2009 Prêmio OFF FLIP de Literatura
The poem, “As Botas”, by Professor Vivaldo Andrade dos Santos was recently awarded second place in the poetry category of the International competition: 2009 Prêmio OFF FLIP de Literatura. The prize included guest attendance to the 2009 Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (FLIP) on July 1-5, a modest monetary award, and the upcoming publication of this poem in an anthology to be released next year. Santos’ poem was selected among entries from Brazil and abroad, and was chosen by a committee presided over by esteemed Brazilian poets Antonio Carlos Secchin (Brazilian Academy of Letters), Adriano Espínola, and Sérgio Martagão Gesteira.
The competition was part of OFF FLIP: Circuito paralelo de Ideias, an event that takes place in conjunction with FLIP (http://www.flip.org.br/). FLIP is a revered annual literary and cultural event in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro State. This festival has hosted many renowned guest authors, including Brazilians Ariano Suassuna, Ruy Castro, Chico Buarque, Lygia Fagundes Telles and international writers Salman Rushdie, Paul Auster, Margaret Atwood, Nadine Gordimer, Anthony Bourdain, Amos Oz, among others.
