Thesis Option
The thesis option requires 36 total credits consisting of:

Students must meet the following qualifications to pursue the thesis option.  If they do not, they must do the coursework option:

  1. Earn an A- or better in each of the required core method and core theory courses.
  2. Receive the thesis advisor's approval by the start of the pre-registration period for the student's last semester in the CCT Program. In order to get formal approval use the Thesis Proposal Form (due November 1 for spring thesis writers or April 1 for fall semester thesis writers).

Students can take core method and theory courses in any order, and students are highly encouraged to take both in the first year of studies. There is no guarantee that students will be able to do a thesis if they wait until the third semester to take the last core method or theory course.

For a more detailed explanation of the thesis process, see the Thesis FAQs or the Thesis section of the Student Manual.

Coursework Option
The coursework option requires 39 total credits with two options.

Option 1

Option 2

***Effective Spring 2006, the Capstone Internship Course, offered as part of Option 2, will only be available on a case-by-case basis. The internship must be approved by the student's CCT faculty advisor.
Students are responsible for finding an appropriate internship before they can register for this course.
Internship course must be taken in the last semester of a student's studies.

Students can take the required Core Research or Theory Course at any point in their studies.

Students who do not take a summer class will need to take four courses one semester. This can be done at any time during a student's studies, but the second or third semester is recommended.
