Rev. E. Terri Lavelle

Rev. E. Terri LaVelle has been a Chaplain-in-Residence at Georgetown since the Fall of 2001. She spent her first 5 years in New South. In August 2006, E. Terri moved to East Campus to serve as one of the Chaplains-in-Residence there. She enjoys living and serving the diverse residents of East Campus.
Rev. LaVelle was on the staff of The Faith & Politics Institute a non-profit, bi-partisan, interfaith organization on Capitol Hill for 7 years and Program Director for 6 years. She joined the Institute’s staff in December 1998. E. Terri provided leadership to and travelled with Congressional Delegations on Pilgrimages to historic civil rights sites in Alabama, Tennessee, and South Africa. Prior to coming to Washington, DC in August 1998, E. Terri spent 20 plus years in health care as a registered nurse working as a clinician, leader/manager, and recruiter in Chicago, IL.
E. Terri has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Rush University and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) with an emphasis on parish and community revitalization from McCormick Theological Seminary. She has taught classes and facilitated workshops for youth and young adults on a variety of topics and worked on special projects with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Bread for the World. She has training in the areas of community leadership development, group mediation, facilitation, consensus building, and appreciative inquiry. In May 2004, E. Terri completed a 5-month certification course entitled Connecting Communities Fellowship Program sponsored by Hope in the Cities of Initiatives of Change. This program provided her with additional skills in the areas of facilitation and dialogue curriculum design. Chaplain LaVelle is a member of the National Campus Ministry Association (NCMA).
Rev. E. Terri is a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church of Washington, DC and serves as an Associate Minister and ministerial liaison to the Public Policy ministry. She enjoys movies, plays, meeting people, traveling, and engaging in lively conversation. She also enjoys Connecting People, Ideas & Communities as a coalition builder, convener, facilitator, and retreat leader. E.Terri has an adult daughter who is the Publicist for Newsweek magazine and founder/CEO of MOSAIC PR.
