Robert Van der Waag

Robert Van der Waag is a Chaplain-in-Residence in Copley Hall. Robert graduated from Georgetown in 1997 with a B.A. in Government and Theology. He then pursued graduate studies in theology at Duke University Divinity School, where he earned a Masters of Theological Studies in 1999. After graduating from Duke, he worked for three years as a religion teacher at Holy Ghost Preparatory School, a secondary school operated by the priests of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. In 2002, Robert began pursuing his Ph.D. in Systematic Theology at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While at Duquesne, he taught several ethics courses in the theology department and coached high school and college baseball. Robert successfully defended his dissertation in 2007 and he currently teaches World Religions IB and Catholic Social Thought at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, a Xaverian Brothers School, located in Olney, MD. He also participates in the school’s campus ministry program, works as the pitching coach for the varsity baseball team, and serves as the announcer for the basketball team. Robert enjoys traveling, outdoor sports, Hoya basketball, music, and reading. He looks forward to making a positive contribution to the spiritual life of the Georgetown community.
