Liturgical Ministry

Liturgical Celebrations at Georgetown University rely on the full and active participation of the student body in a variety of ways.  Students are encouraged to partake in a particular liturgical ministry that compliments their unique talents in response to the Universal Call to Holiness.

  Mass Coordinators

Each Sunday Mass at Dahlgren Chapel has a team of Mass Coordinators.  In coordination with the Director of Liturgy and Sacristan, the Mass Coordinators serve a variety of leadership roles - from scheduling Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers to composing the Prayers of the Faithful.  Their presence at Mass ensures that each liturgy is beautiful and well organized. Those interested in this ministry should be able to attend the Sunday Mass of their choice on a weekly basis during the academic term.

  Proclaimers of the Word

Lectors, or Ministers of the Word, make Jesus' presence known among the congregation through the reading of sacred Scripture.  They are scheduled at a Mass time of their choice throughout the academic term.

 Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers aide in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during the Mass.  They are called to reflect deeply on the Church's Eucharistic theology in relation to their role in this ministry.  Interested Ministers of the Eucharist are scheduled throughout the semester at their proposed Mass time.

Ministers of Hospitality

Ministers of Hospitality, or Ushers,  assist the congregation in a number of ways and help to make known the presence of Christ among the gathered faithful.  From ringing the chapel bell to announce the start of Mass, to handing out Worship Aides and assisting with the chapel seating, Hospitality Ministers carry out a practical role in creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere at each liturgy.

 Altar Servers

By assisting the Celebrant of each Mass, Altar Servers, or Acolytes are a visible sign of the laity's involvement in modern worship.  Those who seek to become Altar Servers serve the Church in many ways - from leading processions with the Crucifix to assisting the priest throughout the Mass.
