Rabbi Harold White
Senior Jewish Chaplain
Harold S. White is a native of Hartford, CT. He completed his undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and received Rabbinical Ordination at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York City. He served as a U.S. Navy Chaplain at Parris Island, SC and with the 7th Fleet in the Pacific. He has served as a congregational Rabbi at the Dublin Jewish Progressive Congregation in Dublin, Ireland and at Beth Israel Congregation in Ann Arbor, MI.
Rabbi White served as the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation Director at the American University in Washington, DC for nine years prior to his being appointed Jewish Chaplain of Georgetown University. Rabbi White is the first rabbi to be appointed to a full-time Campus Ministry position by a Catholic university. He teaches in the Theology Department of Georgetown and has been very active in creating a milieu of Jewish-Christian theological dialogue in the greater Washington metropolitan area. Rabbi White's current academic interests center about Kabbalistic Studies and the Judaic roots of Christian Scripture. He has been deeply involved in ecological issues and the protection of animal rights.
Rabbi White was also the associate rabbi of Temple Sinai in Washington, DC from 1980-1985. He has lectured extensively nationwide. He currently serves as scholar-in-residence at Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville, VA and at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Ilan moved to the Washington, DC area in 1992. Ilan earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland and is currently finishing a graduate degree in Liberal Studies at Georgetown University with a concentration in Religious Studies. Within the Religious Studies field, Ilan is most interested in religion (in its broadest sense), intra- and inter-faith dialogue, religious conflict resolution, comparative mysticism, and spirituality. In the coming year, he will continue to explore the topics of religion, East Asian martial arts, and conflict resolution for his Master's thesis.
Ilan has worked in the field of Information technology, as well as government. However, most recently, he has taught Judaic studies at several Jewish Religious Schools to students in 6th through 12th grade. He eventually plans to go to seminary and be ordained a Rabbi. Ilan has traveled throughout East Asia and the Middle East, is an active member of the Jewish community, enjoys beach volleyball, and appreciates any opportunity for good conversation.
