“Congratulations!” MSFS Students Calling Admitted Students
By Ryoji Watanabe (MSFS 2012)
“Congratulations! I am calling to congratulate you on your acceptance to MSFS!”
Starting March 23, 2011, current MSFS students started calling applicants for the class of 2013 who just received admission from MSFS. When MSFS students look back, many can easily remember when they received a similar phone call from an MSFS student during the time that they were making decisions on schools.
1st year MSFS student, Mark Valenzia, making a call to an admitted student.
The primary purpose of the calls is to provide the prospective students the opportunity to hear more about the MSFS program from a current student perspective. They talk about a variety of topics, such as the strength of program, professors, student activities, life in Washington, DC, internship opportunities, potential careers after MSFS, etc. Besides the phone calls, MSFS also offers opportunities for the prospective students to chat on the internet with current students, but having an opportunity to talk on the phone provides the students another chance to get a better picture of the program. The phone calls to prospective students shows the MSFS program’s attention to the individual student that is a hallmark of the program. Students also seem to enjoy talking about what they like about the program. Tara Campbell, Director of Admissions mentioned, “I’m impressed with the current students and how excited they were about calling the admitted students to talk about the MSFS program. Within minutes of sending out an email to current students for volunteers to call, dozens of volunteers responded!”
Open House will be held on April 14, and prospective students will have more opportunities to meet the current students face to face.
Congratulations again to all those who were admitted!
