MSFS Alumni Join for Fundraising Event

Nearly 250 alumni, current students, faculty, and staff shared an exciting evening at the Darlington House in Washington, DC this past November 14th. During the fundraiser several items were auctioned off including Georgetown memorabilia, Hoya Basketball tickets, and books autographed by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. The auction, in addition to ticket sales, raised a total of $6,200 to be used for MSFS student scholarships.
Along with fundraising, the purpose of the event was to bring the MSFS alumni community together, and the idea was well received with appearances from alumni as far back as the class of 1972. In fact, the idea was conceived by MSFS Alumni living in DC and was made possible by their collaboration with current staff. “These events are great, we usually come out of the program with a core group that we interact with constantly but these events give us the opportunity to branch out and meet up - and help out while we do,” said Charles Wright, MSFS 2007.
For current students, events like this offer a great opportunity to network. “This is part of what this program has to offer; these great networking opportunities with Georgetown alums who are out there actually applying the skills we are currently learning,” said Benjamin Boudreaux, MSFS 2013.
The night also served as the unveiling of the Storyboard MSFS Video Competition. First prizes for the first-year students went to Marshall Bennet with his video entitled “From Overseas to Home.” First prize for the second-years was awarded to Jordan Menzel for his video “I’m with MSFS.” Both won $7,500 dollars in support of their studies.
