Learning Resources
The goal of the Writing and Learning Center is to help students to become effective, confident and skillful writers and to provide resources for them to reach this goal. The following are examples of how the Center can assist you:
- Selecting topic and narrowing focus
- Assistance organizing a paper
- Using a process writing approach
- Learning revising, proofreading and editing skills
- Giving credit to sources
- Dealing with specific writing problems

If you wish to make an appointment, please email Molly McHarg. You are welcome to come in on a drop-in basis, but it is useful for us to know that you are coming for an appointment in advance. We will send you a confirmation email for your appointment.
Hours
Hours for the Summer 2008 session are as follows:
Tuesday, 11:00am-12:30pm
Wednesday, 11:00am-12:30pm
Student responsibilities:
- Come on time for your appointment and be prepared
- Provide your tutor with a copy of your assignment
- Bring any materials that you are working on connected to your assignment
What will happen during the appointment?
- You will work and think about writing
- You will be treated with respect
- You will focus on areas that you need help with
- You will keep your “voice” in your text.
What will not happen during the appointment?
- Your essay will not be proofread or edited
- You will not have your work done for you.

Tutors from the Writing Center are prepared to visit classes to introduce the Center and to distribute information about it. Faculty members can arrange for a brief presentation by sending an email to the Director at the above address.
The Writing and Learning Center provides information and help to students who wish to improve their writing skills. This is done through assisting students with topic development, general organization, as well as guidance on paper revisions.
