Claims

The Office of Risk Management works with the entire University community to identify risks and to resolve losses within the University. All University personnel should consider their safety and the safety of others while working.

Employees involved in any incident that causes or allegedly causes bodily injury, property damage, or personal injury to another individual should report the occurrence or incident to the Office of Risk Management at (202) 687-6622 within 24 hours of the occurrence. A concurrent report should be filed with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), available via telephone at (202) 687-4343.

Automobile Claims

Georgetown University currently operates a fleet of owned and leased vehicles. The University has an automobile insurance program to protect owned and leased vehicles and all authorized drivers.

Drivers of Georgetown owned or leased vehicles involved in an accident must report the incident to DPS at (202) 687-4343 as soon as possible. DPS will contact Risk Management for handling of the claim.

Property Claims

Property losses are those losses arising from damage or destruction of University equipment, buildings, or assets. Department personnel must take appropriate steps to protect partially damaged property or equipment from further damage. Department personnel are responsible for providing documentation required by the claims adjuster to establish the extent of any loss or claim.

General Liability Claims

General Liability is defined as the liability arising from the day-to-day operations of the University. It covers claims for damages stemming from bodily injury, property damage, and personal injury.

The General Liability program protects employees, faculty, and volunteers against claims for damages and covers legal fees and expenses incurred in the defense of any resultant lawsuit or other legal action associated with such claims.

Workers' Compensation Claims
